Taupo Flyfishing Report 20 Oct

Local rivers had another deluge of rain this week, by Wednesday there was only the Hine and the Waitahanui left fishable and both rivers were producing fish for most anglers. Small sized glo bugs in the morning  and naturals during the day were doing most of the damage.  This morning Roy took his 7 year old daughter up the Waitahanui and within half an hour of leaving the car Ella was winding in a nice 3 lber.

Ella 3lb Rainbow Trout

Forecast for the weekend is quite good with just showers predicted and all the local rivers should be fishable by Friday and should all have reasonable numbers of fish running them.  My money would be on the Tongariro and the T.T to be the top two performers this weekend but you will need to double check those levels before making plans.  If the flows are up remember to use enough weight to get the nymphs down or lighter line to let them sink.  If wetlining try a flash of purple or lime as well as the traditional olives and browns.

Tight Lines till next week.
