Taupo Flyfishing Report 2 Nov

Posted by admin on November 2, 2011

Local Taupo flyfishing has been going well this past week on both rivers and stillwaters.  Occasional rain has been enough to send through some smaller late spawning runs, and warmer weather has brought on insect activity as well.  This is a favourite time of the year for Taupo fishing guides with so many great options to take clients.  We've also uploaded some new fishing photos in our flyfishing gallery so check them out.

Early season Taupo stillwater rainbow trout

The Tauranga Taupo had a good run though as predicted but has slowed quite a bit now.  Good runs of trout have been through the Waitahanui with some quality fish up around the 6 and 7 pound mark.  Sight fishing is going well in the upper reaches using naturals such as Hare and Copper, PTN’s and Cadillacs in size 14# and 16#.

The Tongariro  has had steady fishing on most days, and would be the best choice at the moment if you are from out of town and wanting the best chance of landing a Taupo trout.  There is some good Mayfly activity on this river at the moment so look out for short spells on the dries when the opportunity arises.

The Taupo weather forecast is for fine spells on Saturday with rain developing on Sunday so get out early on Saturday and make the most of the time you have.

Tight lines till next time.
