Taupo Fishing Report 20 June

Posted by admin on June 20, 2011

Local Taupo flyfishing is still very spasmodic, the cold weather we need for the spawning runs to really start has not yet eventuated, we are getting small squirts of fish coming through on the rains but not in the numbers we would normally expect for this time of year.  There is so much water within an hour or so of Taupo though that anglers are still enjoying some good flyfishing.

We took Kelly to a new little spring creek about an hour away on Tuesday and had a ball with some cracking little Rainbows just to give her some tuition on the French line technique.  She took to it straight away and we couldn't get her to stop for a break all day.  We'll have Kelly's flyfishing video up on Youtube at the end of the week.

Next day Andrew, Roy and myself went exploring further afield again to try and get our Roy his first trophy.  Beautiful array of smaller lakes about an hour north east of home, with Rainbows cruising along white beaches without a footprint in sight just like bonefishing on the flats.

The Last hour of the day with no trophy yet for Roy and in the last “Witching hour “he hooks his monster, the rest is history, the whole nail biting, exciting and hilarious video is on our Youtube channel and it’s a must for all fly fishermen. Oh! our aching ears “ALL” the way home !! Telecom shares jumped through the roof during that journey home as Roy rang ALL his mates !!!
Well done Roy,stunning fish we all knew you could do it ????
