Taupo Flyfishing Report 17 Nov

Posted by admin on November 16, 2011

Local Taupo fly fishing has been quite good this week with rivers now stable and clear.  The Hinemaia river still continues to produce some good fishing and the T.T has good numbers of trout in the upper reaches at the moment.  The Tongariro still continues to have some spasmodic runs of fish through the system and with less people about now is a very good option for some good sight fishing as long as the weather is clear.

We had some fun last night putting together the video of last week's backcountry trip where we landed a couple of big wild brown trout - we hope you like it.  There are more on our Flyfishing Videos page.  If you want to see the big browns larger then watch it on our Youtube channel.

The river mouths have had some decent fishing this week with small Boobies and fast sinking lines especially at the Waitahanui rip.

Dry fly activity continues to increase in the evenings now and we had our first Caddis hatch mid week which was great.  It happened despite a cool wind, we were using Elk Hair Caddis with a good early hatch extending over two hours - so not a bad start to the dry fly season.

Mixed weather is forecast for the weekend so just keep an eye on whats happening before making definite plans.

Tight lines till next week
