Taupo Flyfishing Report 11 Nov

Posted by admin on November 10, 2011

Flyfishing in the rivers closer to Taupo has been up and down this week, while the backcountry fishing at spots within an hour and a half of Taupo are showing real promise with beautiful early season trout being spotted and landed.  We had a brilliant day on Wednesday guiding in a new backcountry spot that had gin clear pools and some stunning brown trout to target.  There is nothing to get the heart racing like sight-fishing to big wild trout.

With the warmer weather it is now time to start thinking about the dry fly dropper rigs as some fish will now seek out more riffled type water to gain condition.  We have seen some good Mayfly Hatches in Taupo rivers and in the backcountry on Wednesday there was alot of Mayfly activity until the wind got up.

We have had two dry fly evenings this week which have been great fun.  The first was even on a cold windy night but there was still action on the water in a spot that was sheltered from the wind.

We have not seen Caddis activity yet but with a few warm days they will be here very soon as will our first Beetle hatches.  It is sunny and warm but a bit breezy as I write, but the Taupo region weekend forecast is for lots of sun and light breezes, so pick a new spot to explore and go gettum...

Stay tuned as we hope to have some great action of the backcountry expedition up on our Youtube Channel by the end of next week.

Tight lines until next time.
